Home Office Set Up

And don’t forget….

No, I don’t have one. I wish!

I also love having 2 monitors. My D also bought ns a high quality microphone so it produces excellent sound quality and you never have to raise your voice to be heard. The one she bought me is “blue snowball.”. Having good earphones is important so your calls/conferences can be confined and not broadcast.

Not going to lie, I’ve thought about this.

What’s the best set of headphones to use?

I’m the lamp lady - already have a great adjustable light on my desk and another mood lighting lamp on my bookshelf.

We only have a single monitor but its a double wide. Is great. Does not overwhelm the space but you can comfortably work on two windows at the same time. Really love the logitech mx keyboard/mouse.

I have THREE monitors on my desk and keep my laptop closed. My desk has a lower slide-out keyboard tray that also holds my mouse. I am on Zoom most of the time and have an external video camera mounted on one of the monitors, as well as a ring light. I had an external microphone but it stopped working after several years and I found the laptop’s built-in microphone is fine, as are the speakers.

I was issued headphones but my office is quiet and I don’t use them.

Webcam was a great addition for us as well. We opted for a pair of Lume Edge lights that also work really well as desk lamps.

If you have a standing desk be sure to have padding underfoot.

One thing worth mentioning is that if you use your laptop’s keyboard and mic during calls, the keyboard sounds are very audible via the mic. A separate keyboard really helps in that scenario.

I’m on multiple calls a day and always taking notes, so that was a big consideration for me. When I’m traveling and working on my laptop I’m constantly hitting mute/unmute during calls to take notes.

I have a jabra speaker. It filters out noise and is very clear. If you need to be on calls a lot it’s best not to use earbuds for too long. It may harm your ears (happened to someone on my team).
I have one large external monitor, a keyboard and mouse.
I WFH 3 days a week. My home office is a lot nicer than my business office.

My husband has been full time at home since 2020 and I work from home with him in the same room one day a week. We are both in IT and the things that we both need are the following.
A USB powered cooling pad for you laptop - one that will elevate your laptop from the desk

A docking station so you can connect your laptop into your dual monitors easily and your home network

A monitor stand so you can get your monitors up off of your desk

And most important a good bluetooth headset with and attached microphone for calls. His office phone is routed to his headset and he wears this all day. He listens to music when not on a call

Wow, this sounds intense! Lots of stuff! I’ve never used a cooling pad.

Ring light(s) if your job includes teleconferencing.

I have the exact set up at home as I have at the office. I have 2 monitors, a docking station, a keyboard and mouse. I also have a jabra speaker for calls on Teams. I have a standing desk both at home and in the office and have a pad to stand on.

D2 has a treadmill she uses with her standing desk. She is 100% wfh. She tries to walk 5 miles a day on it.

My husband is a uber IT geek.

When I worked from home the two things that were game changers were the second monitor and a comfortable ergonomic desk chair.

I have this monitor, but if I were buying today it’d be this monitor. Same size/resolution but otherwise better specs including refresh rate.

It’s so great having 3 full width columns across the screen including right smack in the middle with no gap (looking at you, two-monitor users). Don’t let the curve dissuade you as it’s very shallow. Not at all like the deeply curved gaming monitors. These are built for productivity.

That’s an awesome monitor - I have its 38” baby brother. I was hesitant about getting a curved monitor as well until I realized that with my old 2-monitor setup, I had the 2nd monitor angled towards me. The curve just mimics what you do naturally with multiple monitors anyway.

So do what you’re used to. Get a monitor, a keyboard, and maybe a docking station. Then things will work like the setup you were used to. It’s what I did when Covid forced us to WFH and it worked out fine for me.

For the keyboard and mouse I’d suggest a wireless setup such as the ones Logitech sells.
