Home School Acceptances, Class of 2013!

My son was accepted into all colleges he applied for: Princeton (SCEA), Duke, Rutgers, UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State Univ. We are from NJ but are moving to NC soon, so that is one reason why he applied in both of these states.

He was a Finalist for the Park Scholarship at NCSU (full ride for 4 years), but he turned down the interview weekend because the program there was the least strong of all the schools he applied to.

He was awarded the Robertson Scholarship at UNC-Chapel/Duke, and that is where he has decided to go. It was really hard to turn down Princeton as he grew up in the town and loves the university, but he didn’t want to take on debt to go there.

The Robertson provides tuition, room, board and fees for 4 years along with funding for 3 summers and up to 2 semesters abroad. It is also highly focused on leadership and will include mentoring and strong connections with scholars in his field. He will matriculate from UNC but is required to take courses at Duke and live there for one semester. He is considering pursuing two majors, one at UNC and one at Duke. As you can see, the Robertson program strongly encourages collaboration between the two nearby universities and then from there all over the world.

We are happy that he chose the option near where we will be living in part because of being able to see him more easily in the coming year. Homeschooling did make us a close-knit family!
