Homeless, didn't get in through the waitlist, have no where else to go, need advice

I’m so glad someone re opened this thread to bring it back for others to see. I remember reading it last year and just bawled. It’s maybe my favorite thing I’ve ever read on the internet.:heart::heart:

I reopened at the request of @MITChris as he would like to provide an update

@bruno99 Me too. My S24 didn’t even apply to MIT, but I bookmarked this thread and shared with my friends whose kids are enrolled at MIT currently.

This post never fails to inspire or give hope that we as humans are fundamentally good and want to help each other. It always brightens my day.

Wanted to update that OP graduated from MIT with a master’s — including fieldwork in collaboration with the homeless workers’ movement in their country of birth — and is now on staff at the institvte.

Today was my first time to read this thread, and the tears were definitely flowing.

Congratulations @thisisthais! You have surmounted incredible odds with grace and gratitude and are an inspiration to many. Wishing you only the best in all your future endeavors!

@MITChris, thank you for being you. Your thoughtfulness and follow-through are so touching and a great reminder of what a difference we can make, if we but try. I hope many others are inspired by you, too.

On Friday I was gifted an MIT tumbler as a gift for making a presentation. I was wondering what I was going to do with it, but this story has made me determined to keep it as a reminder of this story confirming the good of humanity and the wonderfulness that can arise from it.

Eta: Adding a picture showing the MIT addition in its new spot on my desk alongside some additional items of emotional significance that I have been given over the years.
