Interesting, thanks. Was any particular criteria/explanation given for this additional $2K? Had your daughter already accepted her placement in the Honors College prior to receiving this scholarship?
@FLboxer She had not accepted her placement in the Honors College when she recieved the scholarship, in fact she did not end up going to UCF at all. The extra 2K scholarship was given from the BHC and I believe their info states that those who apply by a certain date to the BHC are considered for merit aid from BHC (separate from UCF admission merit aid). So that is what I assumed the extra 2K that she received was.
Thanks, @Mom2NND. My daughter has been offered the Provost Scholarship from UCF, and she did apply/get admitted pretty early to BHC (October), so perhaps she will have a chance at some additional merit aid as well.
DD got accepted to BHC yesterday! For merit aid she had been given the Pegasus Gold for OOS a few weeks ago.
31 ACT
3.82 gpa, 4.69 weighted GPA (estimating 4.2-4.3 as per UCF’s weight system)
12 years Girl Scout including Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Also CIT or counselor at Girl Scout summer camp for past three summers
3 college classes taken as a high school junior (not dual enrollment, these were taken at night in addition to her regular full high school courses) with a 3.7 gpa from the college
3 AP classes last year with one 4 and two 5s on the exams, and 4 APs this year plus multivariable calculus which doesn’t have an AP exam but comes after calc BC.
Submitted first semester grades with her honors application and she had straight As.
Good luck to all waiting to hear!
My son was accepted to BHC. Took a little less than three weeks. He earned Pegasus Gold, in state. 4.3 recalculated GPA, 31 ACT, 11 total APs, Eagle Scout, good essays and a strong recommendation from a school board member. He probably will not end up a Knight. Currently waiting on the big dog.
Hey just to clarify: We can only apply to the honors program if we’ve already been accepted, right? Like there wasn’t a separate application to fill out along with our regular common app that we had to send in at the same time?
@forestmaple yes that is correct, you can not apply to BHC until you have been accepted to UCF. Then there is a separate application to fill out for BHC
@Mom2NND Thank you so much! Do you happen to know if there is a deadline for applying to BHC?
@forestmaple I believe that BHC recommends you apply by sometime in March to have the best consideration. You have to request the application and it is mailed to you.
Does anybody know if the personal statement for the application has a word limit to it?
