Students who have outstanding records and are close to the criteria also will receive a comprehensive individualized evaluation and may be invited based on all of the characteristics listed above. </p>

<p>If you have not heard from the Honors College within four to six weeks of your MSU acceptance and you:</p>

<p>1) are close to the numeric criteria and</p>

<p>2) have exhibited a commitment to intellectual curiosity and academic rigor,</p>

<p>you may submit an additional essay to receive further consideration. </p>

<p>The essay should address a way in which you have demonstrated thinking “outside the box.” Essays should be headed with name and MSU Personal Identification (PID) number. Please also include a copy of your 7th semester/1st semester senior year (or equivalent) high school transcript. All materials should be sent via US mail to Dr. Bess German, Assistant Dean, Honors College, Michigan State University, 468 E Circle Dr, 105 Eustace-Cole Hall, East Lansing, MI 48824. Decisions will be sent via US mail within 6 weeks of receipt of materials on a rolling basis until May 1, 2013. Supplemental materials will not be accepted after April 15, 2014 for students who plan to enroll at MSU in fall 2014.

<p>FWIW, I was not invited into the HC with a 33 ACT and a top 10% ranking… and that was 5 years ago. However, I also didn’t really push the issue. Now that I’ve graduated from MSU, I can tell you that I don’t think being in the HC would’ve made a lick of difference. In fact, some of my friends in the HC think of it as a nuisance rather than helpful (though the scholarships can be nice). I still managed to have a great experience, graduate with a 3.8+ GPA with research and internships, and got into every grad program I applied. Just sayin’ that it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get in. I can still write “Graduated with Honors” on my resume ;)</p>
