Honors Program Admission?

@uofmmom congratulations to your son! That’s great! Can I ask how he was notified about honors and the scholarship? Just wondering if we should keep checking the portal, expect an email, or just watch the mailbox.

Got accepted to the honors program today! Still waiting on scholarships though

@myrna97 I got an email saying there was an update to my tracker.

@buckybarnesx CONGRATS! Which email did they send it to? Your UMN email or your personal email?

@mamadtb Thank you! They sent it to my personal email.

@myrna97, he got an email about the honors program and then a couple days later got an envelope in the mail. The next day he got mail about the scholarship.

D20 was accepted into the Nursing program, and a couple of weeks later was notified of admission to Honors (11/2). Still waiting to find out about merit. We, too, are OOS (IL).

@mamadtb I’m also applying as a history major, got my acceptance on 11/09 and the honors program thing today. Maybe your son will get one soon.

Got my acceptance to CSE on 11/01 but haven’t heard anything about Honors college yet. Should I assume that I didn’t get in? Also, when are merit scholarships announced?

@amihzit It would be nice, but I’m thinking he didn’t get accepted to honors at this point (he was accepted into the school back in September). CLA must be pretty competitive this year! It’s all good…he’s going to a great school with a lot of great kids and opportunities. So none of us can really be all that upset

@mamadtb That’s the spirit! UMN is still a great school regardless of honors program or not. All the best to your son.

DS got accepted to honors at a couple schools, but I don’t think he has a snowball’s chance at getting in at CSE. That’s fine with us. He’s just glad to be in.

We are out of state. Son got Honors College invitation in portal today, acceptance a few days ago. But he is College of Liberal Arts, Undecided major. His stats are very strong, but not as strong as some of the others listed here (1480 SAT is the only one I know off the top of my head). Honors says that they look at geographic diversity, so am thinking that is why he got his notice already - no one from his high school has applied to UMN for at least 6 years, and he goes to a low-income urban high school.

We know a fair bit about UMN through Midwestern friends and colleagues, but nothing about the Honors College. What are the pros and cons?

Daughter just got Honors College acceptance 11/28. We are OOS. She applied 11/1, was accepted to CLA 11/18 and received Honors Acceptance 11/28. No word about Merit yet.

@mtmom3girls What is your daughter’s major? Stats? Congrats!

Thank you! She is planning to major in Psychology and Math right now but it may change.
GPA 3.9 uw and 4.5 weighted
SAT 1500
All Honors and AP classes for the most part
AP exams 4s and 5s so far

Just curious, what were your stats?
