Hospital charge

Did your doctor order the labs? Usually if your doctor is in network they send you to a lab that is in network. However our insurance company (United Health Care) says it’s up to us to check and make sure…

I called the insurance company. As many of you suggested, there was a mixup. They’ll resubmit the claim. thank you all for the help.

It would be nice going in to any test or visit to know exactly what it will cost you out of pocket. A pregnant friend of mine has a $3000 lab bill she is apparently on the hook for that she had no idea wouldn’t be covered. I don’t know if this is legal or not but I’ve had providers take credit card info so they can extract payment that way if insurance doesn’t pay. There’s no reason a swipe of a card shouldn’t be able to tell both patient and provider what the bottom line will be.

Many billing programs will automatically generate a bill once a month even if the insu hasn’t yet processed. So its possible this bill is just reflective of teh current charges before the insu processes the claim. Don’t pay it until you see what the insu pays.
