I hope the book Endurance was required reading for these kids. Ernest Shackleton…wow, an amazing story of leadership and survival. No luxury liner for them. Instead, Shackleton led a rescue mission to Elephant Island on a open boat over the Weddell (sp?) Sea, one of the most treacherous in the world. Google Shackleton if you are unfamiliar with his expedition. It is truly remarkable.

Did they see any leopard seals? They most be one of the scariest things on earth.

(Google is a verb now, you know, just like Windex and Xerox.)

Yeah I am familliar with Shakleton, Mr.Mars brought in one of the world’s foremost expert on Shakleton to give us a lecture on the original expedition to the whole school it was extremely captivating. The entire auditorium was pin-drop silent for 2 hours straight. One of my best experiences at Hotchkiss so far. I don’t know if was required reading for people on the boat but they did have to work and listen to lectures and what not so I would assume so. As for lion seal I would assume so i distinctly remember seeing photos of them on someone’s facebook profile. But i may be wrong. It was a truly rewarding and enriching experience. I really wanted to go see everything ah well… i suppose i’ll have to wait for the next expedition.

That was his headstone on the youtube video! I just made the connection…duh. (I’m a little slow tonight.)

Yeah Shackleton was a leader through and through. A great man indeed. I wish I recorded that lecture the good gentleman gave it was really an incredible story - and as a bonus it was delivered brilliantly by the gentleman.

im going to hotchkiss next year, and im gonna join debate!
