Birmingham/Bessemer is the closest. Hoover is not too far past that and has a lot of options. There just isn’t anything closer. You could go down to Meridian MS, but that’s 1 1/2 hour away. Jasper, due north of Tuscaloosa, is a small town with several hotels (including Hampton Inn) about an hour’s drive over 2-lane roads. Little traffic, though.
