I had this experience at Foot Locker but in this case retail store Foot Locker and web-site Foot Locker really are part of the same company … but very independent business units. Difficulty in “cross-channel” returns is a VERY common retail problem these days. I would guess this hotel situation is similar … the phone guys have a block of rooms and the web guys have a block of rooms and there is no real-time alignment across the 2 reservation channels.

I would like to interject my pleasure at learning that items purchased from the Lands’ End website could now be returned in person at a Sears store, rather than mailing them back to Wisconsin.

I’m another “buys everything imaginable including groceries online with a credit card” person here who’s been doing it for 10 years at least, with never a problem online. The only credit card problem in that time was when a clerk at a Kaybee Toys stole our number from a credit slip and someone used it to buy 3 Playstations and $2500 worth of paintball equipment. It was no problem at all to get the charges removed and new cards issued, but I do know our experience is not the norm.

I like the idea of a “online purchases only” credit card, will consider that in future.

I think every hotel change has it own policy. My D worked at a luxury hotel that only released rooms to the discount websites at the last minute. For her hotel if you looked on expedia two weeks ahead it would say no rooms available but then have them available two days ahead.
I have learned to check all the sites. I recently booked a college visit for my son and husband and found by going to the best western site I got the lowest price by signing in. We have used expedia quite often with no problem at all.

sax, you are like the guy that walked into the eBay store (all items on display are being auctioned on ebay) and wants to buy a pair of shoes. Sorry, can’t sell you the shoes. You have to go online and bid for them on eBay! :D

I have found that when booking hotels domestically it is almost always necessary to contact the hotel for rates, check the chain’s website and also check hotels.com or expedia. On any given day any of the three could be the low rate and have the vacancy. I know it might only be ten bucks difference but if I have the time I’l keep at it until I think I’ve gotten the best deal!

*Credit card companies refund your money for fraudulent use?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

…only after months of trying to convince them that you are telling the truth… and then… the charges reappear the next month and you have to start all over*

Actually I don’t have a credit card but I do use my debit card for virtually everything & I track the account online daily
When I saw charges that didn’t make sense- I called the credit union & they sent me some forms to contest the charges. They reversed the withdrawal immediately
Interestingly- one of the charges was POS- which means" I " supposedly was there and not an online transaction
But we we determined it probably was- going by the purchase, was something bought at a HomeShow deal, where the card slips are filled out by hand quickly & someone messed up
They credited that amount too
