hotels in chicago

For years I walked from the Museum of Science & Industry where my office was, to the Brain Research Institute and beyond. Anything short of that seems close to me!

Hotel Monaco - same chain as the Allegro - small boutique hotel on Chicago river- in the upper end of your price range but worth it. Also try the Amalfi - new, hip hotel with large rooms - across from House of Blues and also near the Chicago River and Michigan Ave.

If you get a chance, take an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan - definitely worth it.

We stayed at the Swissotel on Wacker which is very close to the Magnificent Mile. It was wonderful! Check travelzoo for great deals. They always have specials on Chicago hotels and we’ve had great luck with the hotels we’ve booked through there.

Second the Courtyard on Ontario. We’ve stayed there three or four times. A little less expensive is the Fairfield Inn (also a Marriott) one block away on Ontario.

Hotel 71. Wall-to-wall windows overlooking the river. Really nice rooms. The rooms look just like they’re pictured on their Web site.

KOA (Kampgrounds of America) has space in Kankakee, about 60 miles south. There, your spot can be as nice as you want. Just leave early to avoid the worst of the Ryan mess.
