House Hunters -- newer episodes

Some of the recent HH shows seem to be repackaged Beach Hunters (or one of the other spin-offs) in which the buyers aren’t usually accompanied by the agent on the tour. There have been a few that I’d swear I watched several years ago.

I wish that more of the HHI shows were about actually purchasing a house instead of renting. I find the differences in home selling/buying practices interesting. For example, years ago on a Location, Location, Location show (on BBCA) I learned that the quoted price in Scotland was just a base and offers were expected to be made above (sometimes well above) that amount. I think it was an HHI show set in Italy a few years ago that indicated buyers had to pay cash, which was one reason multi-generational living was popular. Too often the renters on HHI are Americans who expect to get a Texas size apartment in Paris or London for less than it would likely cost in small town America.

“quoted price in Scotland was just a base and offers were expected to be made above (sometimes well above) that amount.”

LOL in hot American markets the quoted price is also usually a base price! Where I live everyone expects a bidding war and usually gets it.

Recently Toyota moved its US headquarters from southern CA to north Texas. Allegedly a lot of the CA buyers who were moving to Texas came in and started offering over asking on a lot of the homes here. In Texas, you set your price knowing you will only get around x % or so of the asking. A lot of resident Texas buyers competing for these homes were really ticked that these people were coming down here and elevating prices like that. Obviously the sellers didn’t share these sentiments.
