Little late to the discussion, but S2 just spent the past 12 days house/dog sitting for his cousin – rural CT. They paid him $35 per day and he did stay overnight, walking the dog in the mornings and then walking/playing/feeding the dog in the evenings. He typically spent the day at his summer job or at our house (we’re paying him to dig drainage ditches
). He made lunches with our food and also came by for dinner every night. I thought the $35 was fair as he didn’t spend more than 4-5 hours with the dog each day. On previous school breaks when he agreed to walk the dog during the day while owners were travelling/long days at work, they paid about $10 per visit.

We always offer up whatever is in the fridge, especially so that we can leave perishables without guilt.

Our sitter is the daughter of a close friend and won’t have a car. I’ll ask her mom what I should pick up for her. She does work odd shifts at a caf

We’ve just asked S’s GF to house sit for us when we go on vaca in early August. She lives just down the street so I’d imagine she’ll have meals with her family, but I intend to offer up whateveer we have in the house (which isn’t much). She loves our dog, knows our house, and is excited to have a week to herself, sunning by the pool. I’ll pay whatever she asks (she’s had other gigs over the summer) but it’s good to have the guidlines in this thread.
