Housing/PittStart advice

TFeduardo12 - I brought my dad to Pittstart because I thought there might be useful information (he’s paying for my college). While there was some useful information about the PittPay and whatnot, overall he found it boring. I also ended up not seeing him very often. I’d suggest not bothering, personally.

Confounded92 - Like I said, it really seems to be hit or miss. It’s based on a lot of factors - are you an athlete, are you rooming with an athlete, are you honors, etc. I don’t think you’re 99% likely to get your first choice, but there aren’t any statistics. Based on my own observations (as I said, I saw 30+ people get their assignments at my PittStart) you aren’t extremely likely to get your first choice - maybe 40% likely. But again, that’s completely my guess, not set-in-stone. Guys seemed to be more likely to get their choices for some reason, I think because girls had the option of Holland, which very few girls actually chose (so Pitt can assign more to it rather than to Towers, etc).

Also, Pitt underestimated how many people needed housing this past year, so people kind of got shoved where ever they could fit them.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. Coming from someone who didn’t get their first or even second choices, I LOVED where I was put. It’s all what you make of it - and it’s a lot easier if you don’t walk into with preconceived, blanket notions of what a dorm will be like. Trust me, you’ll love where you end up!

Hope that kind of helped!
