What I’ve noticed from scheduling my classes is that a lot of the intro classes have much more availability than the higher level classes of the same discipline. For example, I passed out of Gen. Chem. 1 with my post-secondary credit, but I couldn’t sign up for Gen. Chem. 2 this semester because it was already filled up. There are MANY more seats available in Gen. Chem. 1 than 2. The only downside to having a late PittStart is that you might not get the teacher you want (if you’ve used ratemyprofessors.com). On the other hand, there are classes that have reserved/restricted seats just for PittStart students.

Returning to my earlier housing concerns, it turns out that by turning down Forbes I missed out on other housing I would have liked. As it turns out, those who turn down Forbes (provided they were accepted in the first place) are put on a list. There is a corresponding list with students who WANT to be in Forbes, so they do a 1 for 1 switch. This is the reason I was placed in a single in Lothrop Hall…which wasn’t a preference of mine at all
. I’ve asked to be considered for other housing, preferably a double room in Towers (the chances are quite slim I assume). Disregarding the price difference for a single room in Lothrop, is Lothrop a good residence hall? Do the single rooms make it a less social living environment than Towers? I’ve heard mixed reviews about Lothrop…

Btw…sorry for another long post, I only do it because I’m thorough :)
