How Can Colleges Recruit More Applicants at High School College Fairs?

My daughter found the big college fair very helpful. Two colleges she never had heard of she visited. One she crossed off her list and the other is her top choice.

D and I were on a long weekend a few weeks ago and there was an HBCU/CA college fair in that town. So we went. It was small compared to the huge convention center ones we’ve been to, large compared to the others.

We met completely by chance, the mom of a freshman at one of the schools on D’s list, who like us, is from the west coast and had never been to the south. Because she was there working for her business and not for the college, we got the an uncensored review of the place from her.

We also talked to a parent who’s a graduate of another school on D’s list, who had some new information not on the website, and heard from a Wall St. attorney who turned down Harvard for Howard. Best of all though, was meeting the admin director of a college who’d heard of D’s tiny high school and wanted the name of our college/career counselor. They’ve since talked and one of our seniors is adding the college to her college list as they do rolling admissions.

We’ll continue to go to these fairs until D has her final admit list. They seem to work out every time we go to one.
