I never had a charge with skype when used to communicate with D1 in London. Are you talking about facetime, @DrGoogle?
And yes, there is a skype app for i-phone.

@DrGoogle Yes, Skype is on the iPhone…just recently downloaded for my D to use while abroad (she’ll be able to make a “call” on wi-fi as well as send “texts” so I downloaded on my phone too!). They have options to enable calling non-skype and even landlines as well (those cost money, but skype to skype calls/texts are free).
I was not sure about the charge regarding skype but I did some googling and it was not free, maybe it was wrong information, good to know it’s not charged. I’ve been paying for a calling card. Now I can justify to my husband that my time on CC is valuable because the information here saves me money.
I’ve never paid any fees for Skype or Facetime as long as you are in wireless. I have done Skype internationally with no fees. I have not used Facetime internationally.
Aha- that’s why I never heard of Facetime. Don’t do Apple products. The Facebook reference was in parentheses just as an added thought. Likewise have only done free Skype.
I use Skype to see my grandbaby. It’s fun! I don’t have an iphone, so haven’t used FaceTime.
We were able to Facetime with my daughter regularly while she studied in France for 6 weeks this summer. Free and easy!
