<p>A friend of mine whose family came to US and decided to change their family name as it sounds funny in English.</p>
<p>My father’s last name is French so my parents wanted to give me and my sister French first names that would still be familiar though not overly common in America. I love my name, but think my sister may have gotten the slightly better one, as her name is a feminine form while mine is unisex and as of 100 years or so ago was still completely a male name. It’s also still a male name in Arabic, though the fact that it means “perfect” in the language makes up for this.</p>
