How did you memorize your SAT words?

Actually it is very possible to find obscure words that have key meanings and without knowing these words, you can hardly understand the text
It is also possible to find difficult words in the answer choices and if you dont know them ,you dont know what you answer

Watch Russell Brand videos: he’s funny and he has an excellent use of vocabulary.

hey, for people with direct hits. Would you recommend it over barrons hot words for sat? I saw barrons at a local book store and i liked how there were sentence completions to practice what you learned. Does direct hits do the same? thx

Hey guys I’m just wondering which Direct Hits I should buy. I score around a 640 in CR so should I get The Core Vocabulary Volume I or Toughest Vocabulary Volume II. Thanks for you help.

Reading, reading, reading is the best way to build your vocab. But if you haven’t done that and your vocab sux…gotta cram them into your head. Flashcards are always good. Try [Student Login](Student Login)
It’s free, so far, kinda underdeveloped but good word lists, repeating quizzes, etc.

I don’t memorize word lists. I read and actually learn what words mean out of interest in my own edification rather than interest in obtaining an 800 on CR.

I brushed up on vocab. through various SAT vocab. lists. PR, Barron’s…anything I could get my hands on to improve my vocab.

flashcards to memorize direct hits and roots/prefixes/suffixes/etc.

i took a big risk and decided to study 0 vocab words

ended up missing only 1 on the test, and got a 730 (2330 overall)

so for me, time spent into working on paragraphs rather than studying vocab definitely paid off

At the risk of sounding arrogrant, I didn’t study. On the actual test I ended up getting 0 wrong on the sentence completion part. Now before you call me an obnoxiously bigheaded person, there was a method. I think familiarizing yourself with roots is extremely important, and then using words in daily use. Read literature that has very difficult words in it and then look up words you don’t know. Knowing a rote definition helps, but knowing the way a word is used contextually is far more beneficial. I honestly did not study any words (got a 770 on CR), and got 0 wrong and 0 blank on the sentence completions. Familiarity is key.

I got 3 wrong the first time through on sentence completion, so the night before my next test i skimmed through the directhits books for about 30 mins or an hour. 99 percent sure I didn’t miss any this time.

I am learning lot of words out of Hot Words for the SAT and trying to use them frequently around the house with my family
My sentences sound really weird and most of my fam. doesn’t know what they mean, but if they get me a better score it’s worth it.
Using words in context helps you remember them long-term.

Record the audio and listen to it daily for one week.

I would strongly advocate Spaced Repetition flashcards (anki/flashcard+)… extremely effective and good time killing…
