At my book club meeting the other night, another mom asked me about my CC screenname. Apparently, there is a user who attends the same school as my DS, and uses the screenname of my first initial and last name. My friend saw it and was sure that it was me. :)

actually, Crusty Farklefrack kinda works!!!

Kei

Jeepers! I now like BunsenBurner a lot :D

Chuckledoodle, Oh boy - I got a really good laugh at some of the “names” in our house. That is hilarious, in a Mad Libs kind of way.

My screenname is based on my great-grandmother’s(her name, not her screenname!) who came to this country through Ellis Island as a young girl. Education was of paramount importance to her and she herself was extremely bright and well educated for her time. The idea that her children and all of her descendants would have the kind of educational opportunities, as a result of her hard work, sacrifices, and long ranging influence would have been extremely fulfilling to her and seemed appropriate for this forum.

Several years ago, my daughter had made me a ceramic mug, and the message she scrawled on the mug became my screen name. She said she was making a reference to something in a ‘hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy’ book, but I think she was also trying to tell me something. When the CC system told me that was already taken, I tacked on a “1” without really giving it any thought. After seeing so many panicky parents on this forum, I’m glad I used it, even if there is another one out there… somewhere.

Why, think nothing of it, Qntmch. That was so long ago I had forgotten it. I often see situations differently than others(I tend to be more nearly black & white than some others), and I don’t mind those who may disagree with me, as long as they are reasonably polite. You are, Quant, and so are most of the others here too. Thank you anyway!

Chuckledoodle, my son was a HUGE fan of Captain Underpants & the name thing gave him hours of laughter. We had to look up everyone’s name! :)

As for my screen name, it was spur of the moment … I thought I would ask a quick question & be done with it. HAH!!

I lurked over a year before joining, and joined in the fall of S1’s senior year. First kid, poor HS, basically no GC, 10 aps to selective colleges–yeah, it was sr. yr. stress. CC was a lifesaver.

S2-applied to 5 open enrollment schools–thought family was on vacation! Un-sryrstress.

S1-now a college jr., so re-sryrstress coming up, although this time I’m giving him ownership or it!

By then, I’ll be about old enough to join AARP, so I’ll guess I’ll keep sryrstress for ME!

BulletandPima - I have to confess to a really bad mis-reading. My youngest was in HS and parents were talking about all the “alcopop-girlie drinks” that were being marketed, …I mistook Pima for Zima… then of course the fact that Coors owned both brands and the Silver Bullet commercials.
In my mind the two of you are sitting on your back deck in the Rockies enjoying a low-cal adult beverage while the pretty golden aspen leaves float down. So, even if that’s not right, have fun!

Forgot the passwords to my old names (I used the “remember me” function then the computer forgot the pw’s).
DS moved on to different phases of academic life, and I did too.
My older names needed to be retired in good standings.
New name means nothing, something that needs a good psychologist to discover.

Something simple and satisfying…unlike the college search process (now long over).
Unlike those who don’t like their screen names now, je ne regrette rien!

Mine is Latin for whom God has deprived of Chiclets, let Man not kiss.

^^sounds like a fortune cookie…

cornmuffin, perhaps like me, your post count never rises despite your level of CC activity. Otherwise, after only 18 posts, it’s a bit soon to have buyer’s remorse, n’est-ce pas? :)

Worrywart-How did you know about my never-rising message count? As gen Y says-
what’s up with that? I would like to say my mind is on higher pursuits, but it does bother me!

Maybe this is obvious to some people, but I recently decided this has to do with which forums you post in. If you post on actual college threads, your count goes up. Posting in the parent cafe (and the politics thread) doesn’t seem to move your count. So these posts don’t count :)

Fascinating, intparent. Makes complete sense since I haven’t checked out the college threads in ages. Now, can we parlay this concept into calorie counts?

^^^The cafe and cafe/politics don’t add to your count, but the Parents forum does, so you can still increase your count by yakking with the parents.

I didn’t give my CC name much thought. I started to make it midmomom to indicate I was not a kid or a dad, but that isn’t very pronounceable, so I left it at midmo.

I don’t like it, and I have been identified, as is it a geographic identifier. I didn’t think we were allowed to change our names, or I would have long ago. We might relocate after the last kiddo moves on, and then maybe I will change it to midmonomo (or would that be midmo_nomo’?)

My username is based on one of my favorite songs, by Tiger Army. Ghostfire was already taken (I have not seen a single post by whoever that is) so I added 13. Nick 13 pretty much is Tiger Army.

Fairly obvious, I think.
