Hi. S22 is a sophomore at UMass Amherst - it’s been a mixed bag for him and he is actually looking into transferring. He suffers from SAD and the winters are getting to him. I’m not sure if he’ll actually go through with it as he finally has a good friend group, but he has applied to a few place - all with better weather. Academically he has done really well - has around a 3.8 at the end of 3 semesters. He is a psychology major. He initially applied undecided to Arts & Sciences.

Thank you. It’s interesting because before I saw your response I was thinking about whether teen should think about the weather when he applies to college. As far as I know teen doesn’t have SAD, but he doesn’t like cold weather at all. I went to college in a cold city and I remember struggling myself, but back then (80s) I don’t know if people knew about SAD. You’ve given me another thing to really think about. Thank you so much.
