Today they do the screening interviews via Skype or other type of social media platform.
oh, ok
There was someone who posted that engineers are in short supply. is this true? i feel like almost all students who excel in math (and consequently science) want to be engineers.
Well, I think the more accurate statement is that there isn’t a glut of engineers.
jym626, a flagship is not limited just to public universities. It extends to the best of any fleet or group. The 600S and G65 are the flagship Mercedes cars. The Enterprise is the flagship starship in the Star Trek universe. All flagship means is the head of a fleet or series. Now is fleet of 10-20 ships or series, the flagship would be #1 or #2. Like the aforementioned 600S and G650. In a larger fleet, with over 300 ships, there could be up to 6 or 8 flagships. As such, one could argue that top Engineering programs (MIT, Stanford, Cal, Caltech, Michigan, GT, UIUC, CMU and Cornell) are flagship Engineering programs. But I agree, there is a better way of labeling top engineering program, like “elite” (as you suggested), or “top” etc…
We aren’t talking cars, boats or the starfleet, @Alexandre. They can call them whatever they want. IMO, when you are talking in a college forum about colleges, the word “flagship” has a very different meaning and can be misleading, especially to those new to all this. Words have different meanings in different contexts. The word we cannot use here on cc is used elsewhere to mean a little person with a long beard who lives under a bridge. The word has a very different meaning on internet forums. Just sayin’.
BTW, wasn’t the term “flagship program” used by NASA for their missions to explore the solar system? Same term, different meaning…
In a fleet sense, flagship typically means the ship where the fleet, division, or squadron commanding officer is.
This isn’t the first thread I’ve read as a new user that seems to bog down with snippy back and forth. Is this typical?
Ya mean like that one^? L-)
Often when someone posts misleading information, someone may address it. Additionally people have differences of opinion and discuss them. That’s what makes horse races, as they say.
Welcome to cc.
