How do I tell my roommate I want her to move out?

Guess what parents!

I “talked” to Sarah today via both Facebook message and e-mail (identical messages to both places) and was as polite, mature, and diplomatic as possible. I went the route of “you’re a great person but not a great roommate” and made it as clear as possible that we weren’t mad, we didn’t hate her, we wanted to be friends, we’d help her however we could, etc.

And wouldn’t you know it, she’s been wanting to move out anyway–just hasn’t had the guts to tell us. Our rent went up about $20/month for next year and she doesn’t think she can afford it in the light of all the counseling etc she’s doing right now. No hard feelings, everything went off without a hitch, we’re helping her find a cheaper place, and she’ll be back from home/counseling in May to stay with us until this lease is up (mid-July).

I am on cloud nine. So happy. So many weights have been lifted. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Great news. It sounds like it couldn’t have worked out better for all involved.
Congratulations! Best of luck to all of you next year.

“you’re a great person but not a great roommate” What a wonderful way of wording it. Well done.

So happy for you, Kristin, and Sarah and the other roommates!

Yes! So happy for you! :)

Great news!
