Self-selection, plus I’m guessing they tap into longevity medicine . . . or whatever they’re calling it now-a-days.
For very minor starters, B12 and Vit. C injections.

No matter what your political bent, this Larry David / Curb Your Enthusiasm / Bernie Sanders send-up is hilarious, and involves (in part) a bit about shaking hands with people who have coughed in them.

NJres, i agree with your point insofar as I traveled extensively around the world for work, but I didn’t have to meet with clients in the evening, I didn’t have nearly as many fancy (and fattening) luncheons and dinners to attend, and of course I could go take a walk or exercise in a hotel gym anonymously, which the candidates can’t do.
This is a tangential issue, but is about presidential health. Did anyone else notice Bill C’s hand tremors during his speech at the DNC?
Goodness, yes. He does not look well at all. And he’s not that old – 70, I think.
Evidently the Twitterverse noticed, so he explained

It looks like an “essential tremor” – by itself not a significant problem. See http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/essential-tremor/home/ovc-20177826
There are photos of him apparently sleeping during her speech.
The other former president that I’m worried about is George Jr. At the recent funerals in Dallas, he honestly did not seem all there mentally. My in-laws run a respite center with several elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s/other forms of dementia. One of the first signs of dementia can be inappropriate behavior for a given situation.
I honestly have no idea how they stay as healthy as they do. I’m sure they have at least a nutritionist on the tours and maybe even a doctor.
I can understand how politicians like Hillary (very measured, steady speech) keep their voices but I don’t know how more boisterous politicians keep their voices. I have to imagine they have voice lessons. How do actors (especially in musicals!) manage to keep their voices every night when their shows are running 6-8 times a week?
“There are photos of him apparently sleeping during her speech.”
Oh please. There’s a picture of him and Chelsea with their eyes cast downward. Idiot sites are indicating that they were “bored.” No, it’s simply not possible that the camera caught them looking down. Goodness knows none of us have ever been snapped in a picture and later saw that our eyes were closed. You cannot believe he is that stupid that he’d just doze off.
Inappropriate behavior as a first sign (well certain inappropriate behaviors) may suggest Pick’s disease, but there are lots of they dementias without that as an early symptom. Haven’t read enough yet to find if BC’s is a benign essential tremor, familial tremor or associated with some other disorder.
Fist-bumping is looking better and better…
Here is an excerpt about Donald Trump’s typical day. I imagine with his vast business his schedule is just a way of life for him that he has gotten used to.

How do they manage to keep going on empty? This article tries to find the answer:
http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20160729-how-do-politicians-get-by-on-so-little-sleep
I’ve learned I need at least seven hours of sleep a night. I didn’t get that for years when my kids were little and I had an awful commute, but boy, am I glad I can get that now. Throw in a nap and I can go all day!
I need 3-5 hours of sleep a night. I know everything says I should be getting more. But I just can’t sleep that long. Plenty of energy, not tired at all, etc.
As I have gotten older I find getting enough sleep crucial to my ability to function. I wake up early 6 days a week due to my schedule. By 2pm Saturday afternoon I am tired from the week and have to take a nap in this summer heat otherwise I get heavy headed. Sundays are for me and I don’t want to be bothered. I imagine doctors are used to living on less sleep with their work schedule. The have to have to ability to function when they are dealing with peoples lives.
Politicians have a support team who manage their schedule. Being able to manage health and stress is something that effects everybody’s lives.
