How do you dress for an airplane flight?

I usually wear my lululemon pants on flight. Jean wang, who helps petite women to dress, mentioned these Aritzia pants. They come in different lengths, as do most of their pants. These are pull on, elastic waist with a string, as soft as sweatpants, and can be casual or dressy ( just tack the string in). I’m pleased to use them in a few weeks. I bought black.

Could you check in on the web as soon as you can to see if you can find seats you want at no extra charge? That is what I did for a long international trip this year.

No. The only option for a no charge seat selection was checking in at the airport the day of the flight. Hard NO to that on an 18 hour flight.

And don’t bring on smelly food (curry, Mexican, garlic….). When did they start allowing that?

even when people carry on sandwiches or hot food from inside the airport, it’s NASTY

But this is directly traceable to airlines now offering only paid, very limited food choices in non-premium cabins.

That usually need to be ordered and paid for…in advance. And choices? Hahahahaha.

I see this as blame the victim.

United lets you order in-flight, but yes the choices are limited (and haven’t changed in close to 10 years).

Airline food is one of my biggest gripes because while you can pre-order a dairy-free meal (or some version of, like vegan) or a gluten-free meal for international flights, it is impossible to pre-order (or get) a gluten AND dairy-free meal. You would think they’d just get smart and start offering a top 8 allergen-free meal.

Okay, I’ll admit to that. I blame the victim who is bringing stinky food on the plane. Be aware of your surroundings and make better choices in consideration of others around you!

I agree!! We had a seatmate who opened up and ate a really, REALLY stinky sandwich. Ugh!!

I have to admit, it’s hard to know what others consider “stinky.” The airline fare in economy is overpriced & very limited and not that appealing. I have consumed sandwiches on planes and I hope the people seated near me and H didn’t consider it “stinky.” Since my sense of smell is quite muted, I don’t generally find food smells offensive. (Strong perfumes or other scents can set me off, but food generally is OK for me.)

I meant ‘blame the victim’ in that if we dress better we somehow will be behave better. Instead of looking at the problem of stressful air travel. Sorry not about the food.

What was in the sandwich? Durian? Stinky tofu?

Not sure, but it stunk.

We tend to eat at the gate rather than in the plane anyway, except when on extremely long flights. Then we snack on trail mix & energy bars. Some of our flights are 10+ hours so pretty tiring.

I saw the same thing in an airport bathroom in Barcelona. This group of girls took over the whole sink area with their clothes and make-up. They were beautiful young girls who seemed very animated and excited about where they were going but didn’t care that they were blocking the sinks. Someone must have said something to them because I later saw them taking over a closed gate counter with their stuff.

I think it should be up to the individual airlines to set and enforce any dress code they want to have.

Regardless of one’s political leanings, I do agree with the “civility” part of the campaign. Unruly or drunk passengers, fights breaking out between passengers, ignoring the requests of flight attendants - all of that has become the norm. It’s sad that adults need to be reminded how to behave in certain situations, but this is where we are now. The levels of entitlement, moodiness and anger are at an all time high.

Ok, I’m not aware of any flights that long that don’t feed you, unless it’s made up of two shorter flights?

Afaik these are all governed by law in terms of airlines being able to deal with them. They are all potential safety issues. That’s different from dress code.

Sometimes it’s not the duration of the flight exactly…it’s the times. We flew from the west coast to the east coast with a stop in Dallas (not long enough to get food there). We were served beverages on both planes, and pretzels or similar…because neither flight was considered during “mealtime”. I quipped to the flight attendant that the airline was trying to starve us. We were on route home for more than 10 hours in total counting the drive to the airport and the drive home from the airport here. And by the time we got here, it was bedtime.

Time changes added to this issue.
