How do you find a fantastic Eye Surgery Specialist in NYC?

Dr Leejee Suh Is a fantastic eye surgeon in Manhattan who is affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian. I don’t know if she does refractive surgery but she does other eye surgeries and I would trust any advice or recommendations from her. Her number is (212) 305-9535.

If your son finds that surgery is not a viable option, I think he should give contacts another try. Perhaps he should be fitted by a different doctor. My 3 boys are all between -5.5 and -6.5, and H is -9.5. All comfortably wear contacts.

It’s one the oldest (30+ years) and the most experienced (165K+ surgeries) practices in the Tri-state area

I have had eye surgery. There are specialists who do different types of eye surgery. Unlike other kinds of surgery, it’s prudent to have a specialist in the eye surgery area you are hoping for determine whether this type of surgery is prudent in your case.

@VeryHappy

Thank you all for the great information and advice!!! I’ll be checking this out, and have him go to a couple of different places to get different opinions.

In the meantime, I will have him seek contacts again. @my-3-sons, what kind of contacts do your boys wear? Are they disposable, or a certain brand that works? I know little about contacts.

If your son wants to give contacts another try, I highly recommend http://obrigcontactlenses.com/ in NYC. It’s a mother and son business.

They cost more “upfront” than many other companies. However, they work with you until something works. I’ve worn contacts since I was 15, but at one point, they simply didn’t work anymore. It took a few tries with different formulations until one was right. It was well worth it to have someone who kept trying different things until one worked.

I suppose there are a few people who just can’t wear contacts, but IMO if anyone can come up with something that will work, Obrig is the company that can.

They ONLY do contact lenses and are not MDs. I have been a patient for at least 30 years. Until she moved to a different city, my daughter was one as well. Obrig fitted her with her first pair of lenses.

@busdriver11 One wears monthly Bausch and Lomb Ultra and H is in the biweekly Acuvue Oasys. I’m not sure what the other two wear.

I’ve found the most luck in daily wear contact lenses. The higher the prescription, the thicker the lenses. Daily wears have more oxygen than other types of lenses, so they can be more comfortable. I’ve worn contacts since I was 16 and since I’ve switched to daily lenses, they are by far my favorite type.

BTW, I’m wearing a -7.75 and -8.5 in contact lenses, they definitely make them for those of us with not so great eyesight. My glasses are -10 and -11.

My current contacts are Bausch and Lomb biotrue. I have the multi focal now, because I’m old.
