I used to use ziploc pouches for everything, but 3 years ago I got these. I use them for toiletries, socks/underwear, my running clothes stuff, the largest ones as dirty clothes pouches. Everything in my back pack is sorted into one. I love them.
Edit - what I got was different - this is close - but the one I got had all different sizes from maybe 4”x6” to large 12x18. There were 20 pouches for $20
Same. I bought these and they are a great deal. I use for toiletries, storing different meds at home (cold meds in one, first aid supplies in another, etc. ) and honestly all kinds of things when traveling. Great in a beach bag too for snack or lotions or keeping track of small things!

I also swear by these ear plug containers to hold small amounts of stuff in my purse - Advil/tylenol and Benedryl mostly. I or H can need these at any minute notice.
They are also good at holding sharks teeth on beach trips
I love those mesh plastic zipper bags too! I use them all the time.
On another note, whenever I travel to Asia,(I have an upcoming trip end of October for 3 weeks) I do a lot of shopping because so many things are either much cheaper there or simply not available in the U.S. I usually bring four vacuum bags plus an extra small suitcase so I have plenty of room to bring everything home!
I should be a group leader of Overpackers anonymous.
It’s a work in progress. I’m getting a bit better at not packing ALL of my ‘just incase’ items.
I find using small refillable yogurt/baby food pouches works really well for shampoo/conditioner/face wash. Empty, they are lightweight. You can fill them to whatever level you need given the length of a trip. I have fussy hair and skin so not inclined to use the stuff provide by hotels etc.
I’m not exactly sure what they were talking about, but the nurses at a wedding we went to recently were talking about something they’d save and take home to put shampoo and conditioner type stuff in. I’m guessing it was syringes, but I don’t know for sure.
It’s like Mrs Howell packing for the 3-hour tour - you never know what you might need. I was thinking this morning that I should put extra shirts and a couple of pairs of pants in packing cubes and throwing them in the more inconvenient cabinets. We will need rain gear, which does take up too much space, but I can probably whittle it all down.
I have a bunch of mesh bags from Daiso to hold cosmetics. That’s actually a great store for little carry-on things.
I also love the flat yogurt pouches for hair product and face wash. They are easier to stuff into that blasted quart bag than bottles. On last-year’s trip I filled them before and went by how long it took me to use them up to determine how many to take along.
It’s fortunate for my bank account that there isn’t a Muji close to me. So many bits and bobs, I can spend ages looking through everything.
I do have one true cosmetics bag which is always packed with nail file, a few Band-Aids, aspirin, tums, benadryl, a safety pin, a comb, sewing kit, hand wipes, etc.- basically all possible emergency items. I just throw it in my bag when I pack and only reload it after a trip if something was used up.
Someone above reminded me of something else….how much jewelry do you pack?
I’m not a big jewelry wearer but it’s an area I dedicate little to no packing space for! I wear a basic pair of earrings and bring one more. I wear a lightweight gold chain with one small item on it and MAYBE bring one more colored necklace (I have a multi-colored beaded one I’ve enjoyed this year). That’s it besides my Apple Watch and an heirloom gold bangle that I’ve worn for probably 50 years.
How much jewerly do you bring on say a week trip and how do you pack it?
Usually none. But I sometimes take one nice necklace to “dress up” one of my dresses for a special event. For something like a wedding, I take the earrings that match my dresses for the weekend events.
I wear a thin gold chain, my Apple Watch and a ring every day. If I’m traveling I add a small pair of gold hoop earrings. Thats it unless I am going to an occasion like a wedding. Then I add my diamond earrings, engagement ring and dressy watch.
Re: jewelry. Whatever is on me. Nothing else gets packed. With the exception of my Denny Wong plumeria set (earrings and a dainty chain with a tiny plumeria pendant) when we go to Hawaii. Kind of looks like this - with a red stone:
Depends where I’m going (national park for a week vs say NYC ) but nothing is ever packed. I always wear the same rings and those bracelets that don’t come off so those go with me everywhere; I might add a necklace and earrings if we’ll be going out to dinners, shows etc, but I’ll choose the ones I want for the week & wear them on the trip.
