Those coyotes up on the plateau are pretty habituited to humans. They are probably second only to crows as far as interacting with humans. My MIL had problems near downtown Bellevue with coyotes the last couple of years out of the 35 she lived in her house. They are such an adaptable species.
I stick the recyclables in the sink where they more or less get rinsed as I rinse dishes, etc. If they’re still not clean enough to stick in my bin, it usually takes just an extra spray. Greasy items (mayonnaise jars) find an empty spot in the dishwasher. I rinse because recycling only happens once a week here and we would have all kind of pests otherwise.
