On my end, I had a few callbacks for professional gigs in Toronto (since I knew I wasn’t going to seek summer work in the States this year) this summer from video submissions I made (if your MT S or D doesn’t know how to pound out a good-quality video submission in less than 24 hours, definitely make learning that skill a priority! Some of my submissions had VERY quick turnarounds), but ultimately didn’t book anything. I’m really pleased about how many of my initial submissions yielded callbacks, though–it must mean I’m doing something right! Especially since I’ve only completed one year of my program! Since auditioning IS the job, just getting a callback really is a success for me.
The thing I’m most excited about this summer, though, is that I’m going to spend five days at Juilliard next month with Artists Striving to End Poverty for their Artist as Citizen conference. This was pretty much my dream summer program! I’ve always been really interested in art as activism and how closely related art and public policy are, so I’m super excited to attend this conference with 60 young artists examining how it’s imperative that art do more than just entertain. Plus, I’m totally geeking out that I’ve been INVITED to Juilliard. I never thought I’d set foot in Juilliard, much less be asked to come hang out there for a few days!
