How Do You Spend Election Night?

No matter who wins, I’ll be hoping and praying the results will be clear cut. It can be close, even very close, just please, not an uncertain and disputed result. A hotly disputed election result that is decided by the courts is the last thing the country needs right now.

I couldn’t agree more. I wonder if it makes me a horrible person that I like both candidates’ wives more than the candidates. Probably it does. Oh wel.

^ I’m there with you on one, a toss up on the other.

Not horrible at all. :)

And absolutely, cou. I want to be able to watch the news again without just getting angry.

I deleted quite a few political posts. Please refrain from any more such posts or the thread will be closed.

Not really. In fact, this has been a common feature with many past presidents so you won’t be the first to feel that way. :)

Thanks for not shutting us down, ML! It’ll be over soon. :)

I cannot WAIT for my facebook page to no longer be festooned with other people’s political junk. Seems I spend half my time “hiding” those posts from my page, regardless of which side of the political fence it is on.

What is the attraction of Facebook?

I assume that there’s a lot of other junk there besides the political.

Keeping in touch with family/friends from all over the world.

No, email does not suffice IMO.

Facebook is the way my kids and I stay in touch with family across the country. We can upload photos, videos and actual documents, should we choose, to show them in almost real time. We chat in real time WHILE posting these things, describing what’s going on in our lives. It’s better than email by an order of magnitude, and can offer so much more than a phone call. You can’t imbed a video in a phone call. We’re not wealthy. We don’t get to “go home” multiple times a year, but my siblings have watched my kids grow up, seen my youngest sing and dance, and now that she’s old enough, see her own view of the world on her own FB page.

The political stuff, the sports stuff, the comments about the weather, etc. are just sidenotes for us.

If I could do anything on election night, it would be to hang out with Nate Silver.

Looking forward to a quiet evening at home with my family, watching and analyzing election returns, and hopefully celebrating some big wins for our side. To be perfectly candid about it, election night is one of my favorite times. I’m a total junkie on this stuff. I can’t turn off the screens until they stop counting. And then I’m frustrated that they’ve stopped counting before all the votes are in.

What’s even worse about Facebook than being bombed with all your Friends’ political crap is being endlessly bombed by a certain few Friends with the incredibly mundane and boring updates from their daily lives: “I’m tired - going to take a nap now.” “Time to go fix dinner.” “Stopping at Walmart to buy some more diapers for the baby.” And so on.

There is such a thing as keeping too much in touch.

Welp, election day here now in the east. Let the games begin takes a shot (but not really, because I’m still up doing homework :frowning: )

OOh, my S#1 adores Nate Silver!

Fortunately, I don’t have friends who update every waking moment of their lives on fbk. Most are interesting, witty or fun to read. If someone was posting a ton of mundane stuff, they’d get “hidden” or put on " important only" (how does fbk know?) and put on “acquaintance” or “restricted” status. One old acquaintance from eons ago was posting weird and mildly creepy responses to things I posted. He got put on restricted status. I should just unfriend him, I suppose.

*** eta- a friend sent me this link - it cracked me up (its a link to how to replace political fbk rants with photos of kitties) <a href=“New Chrome extension replaces your friends' political Facebook rants with pictures of cute kitties”>New Chrome extension replaces your friends' political Facebook rants with pictures of cute kitties;

Nate Silver = my political junkie crush. I just left his blog to come back here. Can’t sleep. Again.

Mixed marriage this election, and has not been fun. We are not alone from Sunday times amusing article

Not sure how I’m spending the night- hard to stay awake when I wake up at 4am (old time) but so know how I’m spending the morning- with mika and joe

I still suspect we will go to bed tonight not knowing who is president, given the provisional ballot issue in Ohio.

Anyway, the first polling place has opened and closed already in New Hampshire. It was a tie, 5 votes for each candidate. Never happened since they started opening at midnight for the vote.

Love Nate.

Don’t think it will be as close as a lot of people think it will.
