Seriously?? How did I NOT know that? And I’ve been there with my son twice already and tours/college visit and NEVER heard that. Thanks for the info. I definitely did NOT know that. It was the first school my son was accepted to and he has an audition there on Saturday. Not ONCE did that come up. Hmmm
Oh wait… disregard. He got accepted to WVU which is a different institution all together. OK… that’s why it never came up.
Bluefield State as well as WV State mentioned above.
STILL didn’t know . I just looked at a list that my son got from his school counselor and West Virginia State is not on there… hmmm
At least in part because politics is more about race and ethnicity (or proxy issues like immigration) these days.
WV resident?
If not, it may not be a surprise that a counselor knows only of the flagships of other states.
No, not a resident of WV but the GC put a list of all HBCUs (supposedly) within a 5 hour driving distant (despite him telling her he did NOT want to attend an HBCU - but that’s a whole other story) - one of his requirements for ANY school he attends, and WVState wasn’t on there. And it’s certainly within that range. HBCUs weren’t on his radar so didn’t notice .
Could be that the counselor, like many people, thinks that HBCU = PBI, so that WVSU (HBCU but PWI instead of PBI) does not fit into the assumed category.
*In the analogous sense like how PWI is used here, rather than the obscure legal definition of non-HBCU with >40% black and >50% receiving Title IV need based assistance.
