How does financial aid at Chapman work?

My EFC is ~$17k, so Chapman will most likely make up for my COA minus that with grants and need-based aid, right? Should my EFC stay the same at Chapman even though tuition/room and board/etc costs more money than at a UC?

I also think that I will get a good ($15k, hopefully) merit scholarship from Chapman. Will this be a part of the money they’re making up for with aid? Or will this be put toward by EFC, meaning I would only have to pay about $2,000 a year for Chapman?

If I worded that confusingly and you need clarification please let me know … Chapman is my first choice school and I want to go here more than anything, so I really hope money doesn’t get in the way. Please help me understand :)
