How I spend my Sundays

Well, we do breakfast then church, almost every week. I am the clerk of our Session and I feel inordinately guilty if I miss too much church. This week was actually a GREAT Sunday service since we had a Congregational Meeting afterwards to vote on our new Senior Pastor. After almost 18 months of looking, we finally have our replacement, and she’s awesome!!

I’m also pleasantly surprised that so many have the routine of reading the NYT and other newspapers - either online or in hand. (I support news in print and also have a family member who writes for the NYT so thank you for your support of their work!!)

Our Sundays growing up were very on script weekly (my dad would go and buy donuts for breakfast, we would watch Davey and Goliath before or after church, attend catholic church with dad and mom would have our main Sunday meal ready (a rotation of steak or roast beef) around noon. In good weather we’d take a “Sunday drive” in the afternoon).

I wonder how my kids would describe a typical Sunday growing up!?

Church every week, and 50% of the time I am the organist.
After that, it varies. We may be home doing nothing or DH usually has a project, or we may run to the city for shopping, or visit the in-laws. DD’19 always wanted to be back to go to youth group at 5 but now that’s over.

As for yesterday, it was church, then hanging out on the patio with DD’19, DD’17, and her roommate. DH went to plant beans for a farmer. DD’19 and I went to a foreign exchange student going away party, out to supper, and cleaned my office building which is one of DD’19’s jobs. Half the time I help her if we are already in town together.

Nobody does anything illegal and/or immoral on their Sundays?

I could only get through about 1.5 pages of this thread. I concluded that, contrary to my former opinion, most CC parents posting are just as boring as I am.

@NJres had a censored activity. ? I guess we could interpret that in various ways.

OP, style your hair? Just curious what you can do on a Sunday night for that.

(Do you mean “do” rather than “don’t”?)

Surveys and studies suggest that about 20-40% of Americans attend religious services weekly.

Demographics of these forums may not necessarily be representative of Americans overall in this respect. Note also that Sunday is not the primary day of religious activities in every religion.

When I chimed in I definitely meant what I wrote - “don’t”. I am certainly aware that many religions don’t meet for service on Sundays. But many do. It’s fine! We are not the best church goers ourselves! It was just an observation.

Wash and blow dry, then flat iron. Still looks good (maybe better) the next day. I used to do it in the morning and had to get up really early. On the days I don’t commute to work (I only go in 1-2 days a week) I shower and do my hair in the morning.

Sunday is my chore day. I try to get some of it done on Saturdays, but usually this just means I do more than the basic, must do every week chores. Must do for me: 2 hour process of de-cat hairing the floors/furniture (I’m allergic to our 5 cats), bathrooms, all laundry is washed/dried/folded/put away by Sunday night, clean all bathrooms, grocery shopping for the week, and general straightening. The kids used to help me with this, but once S16 went away, I felt bad asking S19 to do much, especially since his school/activity schedule is so heavy. His life is a lot tougher than mine. He does help in the summers/breaks.

I do sleep in. I generally get up between 6:30-8:30 without an alarm. (M-Sat I get up at 3:47am.) It’s technically not a workout day, but I go for a long walk in the mornings when it’s not hot. Now, I walk to the gym and do the stairclimber and catch a ride back home with H. And on really good days (like yesterday), I take a nap. Naps are the best thing ever, IMO!

Why?

Hi @abasket - I’m you’re Presbyterian twin! I used to watch Davey and Goliath before church, too…and in my house it was fried chicken, not roast beef.

I can’t remember the last time I went on a Sunday drive.

@VeryHappy so I can get in my run/gym workout before work. It used to be a necessity when the kids were little. Now, it’s a habit. After 20+ years, I now prefer to run in the dark.

Wow. I too used to get up early to run/exercise before my horribly long commute and before anyone in my family was up, but I “only” got up at 5:15 or, on an early day, at 4:45 AM. That’s amazing.

Get up early and work out. Teach Sunday school, then attend church. If there are no meetings after church, I come home and read, eat lunch, and then cook an elaborate dinner.

I get about an hour later than during the week, at 7:30. Start coffee and walk the dogs. Come back, get coffee, sit on porch catching up in FB, Twitter, etc. Second coffee, go to garden. Weed, listen to birds, watch dogs watching me with their unabashed contentment and love. More coffee. Fantasize about being a writer (instead of a boring scientist). Wait for hubby to wake up back to reality.

H is retired and I’m semi-retired. Our days don’t vary all that much. We wake up, check our respective online calendars, figure out if we are eating breakfast at home or out, and go from there. We have no pets so no need to walk or feed or groom any.

Periodically we check on and visit my folks and take them to lunch or dinner. I work on my nonprofit some and we figure out our plans for the day & week.

Our Sundays are always varied due to performances and gymnastics meets. If we are actually home with nothing to do, which is kinda rare, I get up around 8am and make a pot of coffee to enjoy while I relish the silence. My family tends to be quite loud and I love quiet. I make breakfast for everyone around 10am and lunch around 11- I like to have them both ready to go so I can relax for awhile. I’ll do a little straightening up and then watch a movie with my older daughter. I’ll usually bake a loaf of bread for the upcoming week and make a dessert before making dinner. After dinner we just hang out until bedtime.
