How important are summer internships for prospective law school students?

I found this interesting:

" As with other law schools, applicants who do not fall into the “auto-admit” or “auto-reject” piles based solely on their numerical index are judged on other factors, including letters of recommendation, personal essays, undergraduate major and undergraduate school. Each of these factors has an effect on the acceptance of an applicant."

This is from University of California, Hastings College of the Law. I think it sounds as if they’re referencing it to how other schools view it as well.
