How Important is Class Rank

Rutgers is in New Jersey. New York State residents do not qualify for a free-ride at Rutgers – those slots are reserved for residents of NJ.

They are not free rides, just to be admitted to their honors program. But not sure that was relevant. I was just giving it as an example, not every state school operates the same.

gibby, Last year we checked about residency requirements for scholarships at Rutgers since I saw newspaper lists of Presidential recipients and all were in-state. They assured me scholarships are open to all applicants. D applied from OOS and was offered the Presidential. Not free ride for OOS though, as no OOS tuition waiver given, more like full tuition.

collegebound, if your school does not rank but you need it for application purposes, you can ask (politely but firmly) and they will put it on report. Schools may not release rank, but they do have capability to compute it and should not withhold that info if it is needed by applicant for any of his schools. Our local HSs include it on request.

On common app, did you check the access waiver? I know common app changed this year, but imagine that is still part of it. If so, GC may say no to your request to view info. But you can ask anyway. They may tell you in a general way what sorts of info they put into form even if they don’t show you their personal letter. Some GCs don’t seem to mind sharing letters regardless of waiver status, while others are more protective of their privacy rights.
