@gearmom DS does not have a Kindle but has a Chromebook.
Has anyone yet answered “it isn’t”? If so, let me be the first. It will get done though, rest assured.
@magnetnh Why does he want the Mac book? My DS2 has both the chromebook and kindle which is handy to books, audiobooks, surfing and emails. Looks like they are not on sale anymore. What else does he like? Wireless Bluetooth speaker?
@gearmom I think he loves the cool factor of the touch bar on the Mac. I will look into the Kindle and maybe other electronic devices as gift options.
^Good luck.
Haven’t even started. Besides H and D, I don’t even know if I’m going to give any other gifts this year.
@magnetnh How old is your DS and what is your budget?
What about an ipad? They have a new 2017 9.7" model 32gb. Not an ipad pro or air - those are much more pricey.
On sale now at Best Buy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-ipad-latest-model-with-wifi-32gb-space-gray/4907703.p?skuId=4907703
My DS19 bought this for himself this summer and he loves it. He had an original ipad 2 and this was a super nice upgrade. He can watch youtube and netflix right from is dorm lofted bed, and not disturb his roommate. He opted for the space gray since the black edges look better when when watching videos (recommendation of BB employee).
I see that Best Buy will be having an ipad deal of the day on December 11th. Not sure which models or price, but the $279 is a good price now and you prob could get a price adjustment or return/rebuy if it’s lower on Dec 11th.
@uwalummom Thanks for the recommendation. I will look into it. Funny I was going to make a trip to Best Buy to get some ideas so I will look for this now.
Phew just finished! Went to Costco this morning and bought some cute FisherPrice toy sets. Will give them to my young nieces and nephew with some cash for their education funds. One of the toy sets has shape sorter, stacking tower and rolling telephone. The other set is an airplane and a bus with little people. The niece and nephew can play together.
Bought another nephew a magic kit from Costco because S loved it when he was younger. It comes with free video. Another nephew, bought 3 bags of nuts and wool socks (he’s into healthy eating and I know he likes nuts and convenient eating).
Bought the kids headphones from Costco. One was on coupon. H says he will take whichever S doesn’t want.
Bought some cashmere cardigans from LandsEnd, warm jacket and some thermals, plus some warm hats and scarves (detect the WARM there?)
I have a few more odds and ends, plus some more food and coffee and 3 electronic massagers.
For decades I have made it a mission to finish the gift shopping by December 1 and I was! Makes December much more relaxing.
@MaterS I know it’s not an iPad but the 10" Amazon fire tablet looks nice.
Got the 10" fire tablet during their black Friday sale - nice but very large - not as portable as the smaller ones
Here is a techy review of the Fire vs. IPad http://gazettereview.com/2016/05/ipad-pro-vs-amazon-fire-hd-10-tablet-reviews-comparison/
I just got the 8" Fire for DS2 on Black Friday.
I finished about 12 gifts of my super secret pumpkin bread gifts today.
The recipe is super simple but as I have made it a secret it is crazy popular.
I, in my youth, made 27 loaves each season. These were those tea loaves at the time. But then I went
to loaf pans as families grew. So that was 27 loaves of 1lb.
This year 12 loaves and 6 little tiny ones.
Not enjoying it and so think this is the last season.
D knows and one lad of S’s childhood friends-- I gave it to him as a gift if he graduated from HS!
He loved it so much. His parents tell me that his is not the same–but that is just my touch.
Otherwise I have not one single gift!!! Or even, as I realized today, any ideas!
Today is the day I pull every bag and box out of my closet throw it all on my bed, sort out which goes to who, write it down on my phone and figure out what I still need to get. Hopefully by the end of that task I’ll have some direction for the week to get what else I need to!
@abasket I did exactly that yesterday and came to the same conclusion I always do after I review the gift pile - how did I end up buying so much stuff! I am in good shape - I think the only things left will be amazon gift cards.
@oregon101 Now I. am intrigued by that recipe!
I have one last gift to buy and a few returns.
When we were with DS1 and his wife at Costco last week they bought some wine to have at their home and to share as gifts. Also bought some other stuff. DH paid the bill and they declared it was their holiday gift! I just ordered 3 month fruit/cheese thing for DS#2 and fiancée from Harry & David. Had a 20% coupon (available on line) , 7% back buying through mrrebates and and offer on my AmEx card for and additional $20 credit for spending over a certain dollar amount. They are hard to buy for as they have a very small apt, she is vegetarian, he is allergic to nuts (so gift packages of food are hard to do) but hopefully this will work.
Okay, I made a spreadsheet last night. The little list on my phone was making me crazy. Ordered D2 some cute Bombas socks last night (she ALWAYS needs socks and is happy to get them). D1 asked for a daypack she sent me a link to.
Biggest gap is still my dad – going to call this upscale butcher shop in my hometown and see if they do gift certificates. I do have a box of Samoas for him (standard gift at all Dad holidays) and I pay for his cell service. Backup plan is the recently released book on the Halifax explosion or some other book along those lines – non- fiction, not too dense/scholarly.
And some stocking stuffers still needed.
