how is humanities core?

I complained that it was difficult when taking it, but in retrospect… it was 8 units. It was really nice that I never had more than 3 finals freshman year because of it. (paper is usually due week 10, then a final on finals week)
It really does depend on your discussion leader though. Some were easier than others, but it sucks that most of the time the discussion leaders aren’t posted until after you’ve enrolled.
But like mentioned above, do go to office hours to get help on your essay. I found that most of my DLs basically told me what they wanted. it’s really important to figure out what they’re looking for or at least what they don’t want, and most of the time if they’re picky they’ll tell you at office hours.

HumCore wasn’t that bad, I ended up always with at least a B+ (in both writing and lecture), and I never was good at writing or analyzing books in high school… for the midterm and final, most DLs test you on what they talk about in discussion, but check ratemyprofessor for that.
I also liked that it fulfills so many requirements. (Humanities, Lower-division writing, and Multicultural studies). However, note that you only need Humanities 1A and 1B to fulfill lower-division writing. 1C is when you have to write a research paper, and fulfills humanities & multicultural studies.
Also, I think there’s less essays now? I remember talking to a freshman this previous year, and she said there were only 2 essays some quarters.

oh, and you can check the schedules here: <a href=“EEE+ Home | UCI”>EEE+ Home | UCI; (proposed scheds for winter and spring too)
