How is NYU's average scholarship/grant award $26,000 per student?

When you ran the NPC, you probably put in that your parents’ income is somewhere around $55k. But, once CSS Profile was submitted, and NYU saw that your business-owning parents are deducting things such as: cars, phones, gas, insurance, depreciation, and a whole host of other things, NYU may have concluded that your family isn’t truly living on $55k per year.

Perhaps that $55k per year is the amount that your parents “draw” from the business? Who knows. But NYU concluded that your family isn’t truly living on $55k or your family has a lot of assets.

The fact that your dad says that he can pay $40k per year for NYU on such a modest salary, speaks volumes.

@SoMuch2Learn – when I saw those Pell grant numbers, I wondered if a significant number of those students have funding from another source, such as Gates scholarships. I believe that Gates funds 100% of whatever COA is not covered by federal grant and a school’s own financial aid, so definitely an economic incentive for NYU to have those students.
