I think it happens more than we realize. The first offer we had on my dad’s house were a bunch of tire kickers. A few weeks later, IIRC, we got the second offer and when we were still in the preliminry negotiating stages anpother offer came in. But they didnt want to be back-up buyers. But yes, nice problem to have. Congrats.

VeryHappy, very nice.

great news, veryhappy!

Boy oh boy, I cant type AND I made a grammatical error. :o

No matter-- congrats to VH!!

Well, there are not yet any fat ladies singing around my house. AND, both offers were less than I would have hoped for, but I guess that’s what the market is telling me.

Now, we have to find a place to live. Holy cow.

VeryHappy I think that’s always the way it goes!

Congrats to everyone on progress.

I think most of the visitors thought the stove was scary. The kitchen is surprisingly large for a 1920s house, but has never seen a renovation. Personally I think that’s better in some ways, than my depressing mustard early 1980s kitchen. I really truly am going to deal with it next year!

mathmom: Be sure to hire an architect before you tackle that kitchen! ;)

Strong in Seattle. From article–lack of inventory due to many being underwater on homes driving up prices. Interesting market way to get prices back up.

It appears we have a deal on our house. Gulp. We’ve been here for 25 years. Are we really doing this??!!

Fingers crossed for it all to smoothly go through…and for you to find the perfect downsize next home.

Thanks, Thumper. We may have to move in with you for a few months. You down with that?? ;)

VeryHappy, congrats.

You said the home you are selling is on a big lot as are others in your neighborhood.

Are you going to stay in your community?

Yay VeryHappy!!!

dstark, we’d like to stay in this town, but our plan is to buy something for half of what we’re getting for this house, and then put some $$$ into that smaller house. There is very very little available in my current town for that little. I suspect we will wind up in a neighboring town. We will definitely stay local, as our children have not yet “settled” into their “permanent” locations. (Whatever that means anymore.)

Thanks, ohiobassmom. The anxiety will begin tomorrow, I suspect.

“We will definitely stay local, as our children have not yet “settled” into their “permanent” locations. (Whatever that means anymore.)”

This implies that you would move out of the area if your kids settoe out of the area. Or am I assuning to much?

We have three extra bedrooms and a finished basement. VH…you and your husband are welcome to stay with us! Seriously.

Well, we’ve lived in CT our entire children’s lives. We now have one son in Madison, WI and one son in Cincinnati, OH. I expect both are temporary locations for them. But if we could be within an even three hours from our children by car, that would be delightful.

Thumper: Thanks. Seriously. But you’re too far north for us!!

VH, many ppl rent after they sold, it will take a few years before your kids settle down, it not too late to buy then. OTOH, real estate is always in cycle, you never know when the curve will go up, down and sideways.

I expect we’ll buy locally, live there for five or ten years, and then go to the “real” retirement place. Were both still working.

Wow. An conservatively estimated 3 to 5 % ROI on NYC Apt. investment buy at current market purchase/rent prices?? (Suggesting an all cash buyer). And in a very desirable Manhattan neighborhood as well?

Not intending to be divisive here, but, I strongly suggest your brother have someone else check his arithmetic and his assumptions.
