How is the house selling season going?

Thanks. It is nice to have that done and no more payments, mowing etc over there.

MOWC - congrats, now you can really enjoy your new house.

MOWC, I hope to be in your spot soon. I spent a wonderful morning emptying the garage and sweeping it, getting rid of cobwebs, mouse residue, and other assorted fun things. I want prospective house owners to feel that they could eat off the garage floor, if that makes them happy.

Congrats everyone!

Wouls soemone please kick me? Just for the heck of it I looked up my dads house on zillow. Yes I know its not accurate, but that said, the absolute low it shows is when I sold. The current value estimate is 20% higher than what we sold for :frowning: :frowning: :(

Let it go; you know how happy you were to be done with it. Even if it were real money, it wouldn’t have been worth the agony of prolonging the situation.

jym, just like selling a stock, it’s over and done with. Why let something unreal make you unhappy?

jym, I think that number is very variable depending on where you are. Things with great views are selling for more money. Regular houses are selling, but according to the newspaper the turn around really hasn’t happened yet. Prices are still mostly down below last year’s level.

I totally understand all this from an intellectual level. Truly I do. But symbolically, its the house I grew up in. It means something if it has value. Hard to explain…

JYM, think of housing prices like temperatures or blood pressures. They bounce around all the time and aren’t REAL unless someone is buying for said price at any particular point in time. At all other times, it is just a number someone somewhere decided upon and has no real meaning.

The houses we grew up in had great value, as places to shelter us. At some point, it’s good that they can also be a nice place for another family to be sheltered in and to allow you & others to get some cash to spend as you prefer.

jym -remember that Zillow can also be materially wrong.

^^Congrats to everyone that is closing… I am closing as well, wiring the funds to BUY, not to sell…

Speaking of Zillow… looked up the house I bought in Feb. It is valued at $88K! They took the auction starting bid and pluged in and because of that, all the surrounding area homes are way under valued…:)

Hi everyone. I confess to not having read the entire thread, but we are currently getting our house painted in preparation for putting it on the market. No rush, though I think summer would be the best time. We have a large lot, and DH and I just don’t want to deal with it anymore. With the youngest a HS sophomore, we don’t need such a large yard or even this size house (2400 sq ft.). So, we are thinking of downsizing.

Seeing how nice it looks with the rooms cleaned and painted, I confess to having second thoughts…

Must be a lot of old people on here…

All the downsizers… :).

We just returned to Orange County CA from looking at a “retirement sized” home up in Walnut Creek CA. The home is close to downtown and is an estate sale sale. The open house was yesterday and before the open house had ended there were 5 offers already submitted on the home from buyers who had seen the property in the days leading up to the open house. Over 90 realtor business cards were already left in the home when the open house started.

We ended up putting in an all-cash offer at $15,000 over the asking price. Inventories are extremely low and there are no distressed properties in this zip code.

So jshain…when do you hear if you got the place?

calla1–every time my H and I put a house up for sale, after we fixed up, cleaned up, and painted, we had the same feeling. Tell me again why we’re moving? :D

Fortunately there was always a good reason…really needed more space, better school system, etc.

dstark, The offers had to be submitted today and we gave the seller until tomorrow night at 11 PM to respond to our offer.

Ok…good luck…

I haven’t been to the downtown area of Walnut Creek for awhile…but I like that area.

Another one selling here. Just went up on the market, exhausted myself readying it for the last few months. This is anxiety producing. Was a wonderful family house but with an acre lawn and way too much square footage-too much for me an a small dog. Very emotional. BUT I am ready to not be responsible for it.

This thead is interesting, its wild how different areas of the country vary. No shortage of properties available here, certainly no bidding wars.

sistersunnie, where are you located?

I had no idea Walnut Creek was so hot. I have a nephew and niece-in-law who live there, whose house is under water.
