How is USC compared to UC Berkeley?

Camp:
It’s impossible to compare “apples to apples” with the stats you provided. First, the numbers provided by CAL are for an approx 2 mile area including the area around the campus in Berkeley and Oakland. Second, DPS at USC reports for ON CAMPUS only… how convenient. That way the numbers can be twisted and massaged to keep parents paying the big bucks into thinking their children are truly safe walking around South Central LA! Third, DPS hasn’t provided updated information since 2003. DPS also has the discretion of calling LAPD on a student or not… hmmm…. For skewing of numbers purposes, or???

In the last month, (info taken from: http://www.lapdcrimemaps.org/</a> for the period November 4 to December 3) and in a 2 mile area around USC (similar to what UCPD reports at CAL…) here is what LAPD has on their books:

Burglary: 37
Personal Theft: 36
Grand Theft Auto: 123 WOW!!!
Theft from Vehicle: 68
Robbery (Violent): 116 WOW!!!
Forcible Rape: 7
Homicide: 3

TOTAL: 390 ONE MONTH TOTAL!!!

REMINDER: THIS IS FOR A ONE MONTH PERIOD!!! And, this does not include the bike thefts and all the petty stuff DPS actually does keep track of… IT GETS WORSE!!! Multiply these numbers by 12 (because the numbers provided on CAL are for a 1 year period!) and IMHO, is a very scary place to be… don’t think I would want to be on the streets, or campus at USC…
