How long does that turkey last?

I put as much as I can in GlassLock containers for the fridge and keep them there as much as possible. Fortunately for us, food goes so fast that long-term leftovers usually aren’t a problem.

The squirrels are still eating our Halloween pumpkins…they seem fine.

^^^ I am sorry to say that I was the trash can…:)

This thread is hilarious- I am in the 3 to 4 day camp.

I grew up eating leftover turkey for a lot more days than recommended - at least a week I would say. I think 3-4 days is very conservative, if the turkey has been properly handled. I wouldn’t have any problem going a week, particularly if it is cooked again and not just reheated.

LOL of course today the turkey that hadn’t been boiled in soup smelled slightly off, so we tossed it. But it’s been fine up until today. I do try to eat it within a week and lost track of it.

I froze the carcass of the bird and used it today , along with a couple of chicken thighs and also frozen leftover gravy to make a big pot of soup
I’ve had a wicked cold for close to a week and the one thig I wanted and didn’t have was some decent soup on hand
I took care of that today…made tomato soup and the mixed chic/turkey and froze 5 containers
I think I am on a roll. I have a lot of sweet potatoes on hand…that is the next soup for freezing
I think I will prepare for the apocolypse

apocolypse or holiday season either one -it is good to be prepared!

I haven’t had sweet potato soup in a long time - maybe twenty-five years ago in a chicken base cooked by a french chef that I was visiting. We had sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving but they lasted until Friday.

One thing that my wife has taken to doing is to cut up butternut squash into strips (thinner than french fries), mash them together and then fry them. It’s like a potato pancake but it’s made out of butternut squash instead. They don’t last very long around here.

Four days is max for me. I threw the turkey carvass in the crockpot for soup on Sunday and that’s it. If I want to save anything I would cut out pieces Sat and freeze right away, like the leftover ham.

@BCEagle , the sweet potato soup was a recipe I found on the foodnetwork’s website. It is supposed to have applesauce , but I used a granny smith apple instead, and curry

Also , I make a pancake from zucchini and feta. Pancakes are a great way to use veggies and add variety to the usual methods
