How math intensive is computer science?

Can anyone tell me if this school’s CS program looks worth anything?

<a href=“College of Health Sciences: Academic Advising - Old Dominion University”>College of Health Sciences: Academic Advising - Old Dominion University;

It depends on what you are doing. I have a few years of experience with kernel programming, and I use almost no math at all (beyond basic algebra/geometry). Bitwise arithmetic isn’t really “math”, per se. If you are doing something more practical (like Project Euler), you need a good amount of mathematical skill.

It seems to be a solid CS program by today’s standard but I would do the following to the program:

1) Take CS-355 Principles of Programming Languages. Programming languages is a core CS course and will be required for just about any graduate CS program.

2) For your science courses, choose Physics.

3) If you ever plan to get into graphics or similar…a Calculus III course (which covers vectors) would be good to take.

4) Find out which mathematics/computational topics are covered in that “Computational Methods” course. If that course is to be like a Numerical Analysis-type course, then there will be solutions of Differential Equations and you MAY need to take another math course in Differential Equations to be prepare for that “Computational Methods” course.

Thanks for your advice. Why Physics?

Also, Computational methods and software is described as

Algorithms and software for fundamental problems
in scientific computing. Topics: properties of
floating point arithmetic, linear systems of
equations, matrix factorizations, stability of
algorithms, conditioning of problems, least-squares
problems, eigenvalue computations, numerical
integration and differentiation, nonlinerar
equations, iterative solution of linear systems.

I really have 2 choices for schools, the other being this program which looks much more intensive http://www.cs.vt.edu/files/files/Checksheets/CSMajorChecksheet2012Final_1.pdf
