How much are you willing to pay for tuition in fall 2020 if schools are online?

I doubt you could find 2 colleges more different than Rutgers and Colby. Yes RU responds was not great but I am guessing more the norm compared to Colby’s. Glad to see Colby stepped up right away. It is funny my son is still getting emails from his acceptance schools saying put down your housing deposit , hell we do not even have the merit aid package yet. It will be an interesting few weeks.

@NJdad07090 not sure if you’re responding to my post but our S19 is at Bowdoin not Colby.

@homerdog , yes I was reeling to you, sorry I was in a Colby thread before this one and messed up the schools.

Several pending RD applications notwithstanding, son’s top choice is MIT, despite having been offered full tuition merit at Vandy, which is a 3hr drive for us. MIT is a fly in school that will cost us about $50K/yr after need aid, so about 120K difference over 4 years if our financial situation remains the same.

We’re asking ourselves all the same questions and have the same reservations everyone else is, it’s scary as hell, but MIT is a great fit and an academic match for him. Vandy, not so much (their CS program is not in the same league).

We anticipate at least the first semester will be online. What could be even worse are repeat outbreaks.

Still, we have to make it happen.

I am curious did your son apply to CMU? I would be interested in your take on them versus MIT.

Lila Bear, CMU has a top notch CS program, but DS did not apply there as their NPC was showing us to be full pay.

I can justify paying $50K/yr for MIT. I can not justify paying $75K/yr for CMU.

Thank you for sharing that. Congratulations to your son, he seems like a phenomenal student! My DS is deciding between GT and CMU. His focus is on AI and Machine Learning. Unfortunately without the campus visits a lot of this is going to have to be based upon gut feel as opposed to a weekend on campus.
