CompUSA/Tiger Direct has refurb Magellan, 4.7 inch screen, with 3 month warranty for $70 + shipping/tax.

I bought the Garmin Nuvi 255W and like it. It was great to have on our college road trips…we could just cruise around the campus area, then when it was time to return to the hotel, it was easy to get back.

My son wanted one for Christmas. I bought him an upgraded Garmin Nuvi because Amazon had it on sale for less than the 255W.

The Garmin 765T that I recommended last Spring/early Summer has been discontinued (this was mine but was given to my son when he got a car). The one that we are considering as a replacement for me is the 1390T @ Amazon for $175. It has lane assist, junction view, speaks the street names, and bluetooth. It is more expensive than the 255 that is widely suggested as a great buy (which I agree is a great value). The greatest difference for me is the bluetooth. We live in an area that is very close to ‘hands-free’ by law states and I anticipate that our state will adopt this law soon as well. Talking while driving alone can be distracting, but if I’m going to do it, I’d rather have both hands on the wheel.

NOTE: Costco has the 1390LMT with lifetime map & traffic updates for $180 online through 12/19, no shipping…while supplies last. I’m skipping Amazon for once.

Has anyone tried the mapquest app on iphone 4? supposedly it does turn by turn and will talk to you.

In the recent past, there have been great deals on Black Friday at places like Best Buy for Garmins and other GPSs (if you don’t mind fighting the crowds on Friday morning).

Another vote for the Garmin Nuvi. I have the 255WT and son has the 255W. I got the 355WT from Amazon and the 255W from Best Buy. They have gone down in price over the last few years.

My only complaint is the battery doesn’t last long, so it pretty much has to be plugged into the car when in use. You can take a regular charge with a USB plug and charge it in a electrical outlet but you to plug it in, turn it on and then off and then on again to get it to recognize the charger.

Vyse, I have that app but haven’t used it yet other than just to try it out while sitting inside my office. It sounds great and seems to do what a standalone GPS does.

My son has the Google Maps app on his EVO phone and it has spoken directions, but my iPhone Maps app doesn’t speak.
