Binghamton uses your Estimated Family Contribution in determining how much aid to award. It is exceptionally rare for freshmen to receive any merit-based aid whatsoever.

This is the only help I can offer, and it’s unlikely to apply to your situation: [Binghamton University - Financial Aid: Funding Needs](http://www2.binghamton.edu/financial-aid/funding-needs/special-circumstances.html)

Pell Grants are awarded to students with the absolute lowest EFC. Pipe Dream (student newspaper) recently reports that Binghamton only had 100 Pell grants for my aid year, and it has been increased to 150 students for your aid year. Pell grants have a maximum award of ~$5,500/yr and students with an EFC of $0 are the first to receive this grant.
