Kids I know tend to net $5 an hour. They work 10-15 hours a week during the school year. SUmmers you can do better if you want to find a restaurant job in addition to your day job. My sons have bussed and dishwashed and made quite a bit of money, more than waitering, though that can be lucrative if you get great hours, a great place.

“College students aren’t supposed to pay for income taxes.
There’s an exemption for being a full-time student. Most students don’t know to claim exempt though.”

However, if you claim yourself exempt, your parents can’t claim you as a dependant. Chances are, your parents will save more from claiming you than you will from claiming your exemption.

I’m making $5000 this summer before taxes (REU). Last summer, I made about $2000 I think working at a sandwich shop for $8 an hour.

Made around $1600 from Jan-May, plan to make around that for the Fall and probably $3000+ for the summer, so maybe around $6000 for the year.

I have an internship next summer in boston for 10k in stipens, housing, partial food, partial transportation fee (getting there, aka plane/drive). 40 hr weeks. I think thats like 33 dollar something. My brother interns for IBM and gets paid 24 USD right now, will have like 9k in a 2 and a half month period plus housing.

also im starting to work as an emt soon so that would be added also.

I make around $14,000 a year working full-time at Taco Bell. I am an assistant manager.

The average on-campus job pays around $6-$7, so if you work about 15 hours a week you can pocket $75 or so after taxes, enough for beer money and spending money for the week.

i would say that the average college student doesn’t work and earns zero haha – but an on campus job would pay something like 7-8 dollars…so decide how much you’ll work and do the math – it isn’t bad money, but it’s not great either.
