I wrote the first prompt the night before the app was due, and then finished the second the next day after class. I spent about an hour writing both, about thirty minutes editing and reviewing, and got accepted to UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCSB, and UCSD. I’m a HUGE procrastinator, so I wouldn’t recommend this for everyone, but I think it’s important not to spend too much time writhing your statements. In the end, they’ll become jumbled and confused, and you’ll miss the entire point of why the schools want you to write them. Just remember to tell them what your goals are, and what led you in that direction. Be personal, but don’t overdue it with the sob stories, and you should be fine. Don’t start them the night before, like I did, because I had no time to give it to my professor for review, but I think two months prior is a little overkill. Good luck to you all.
