I was 24, H was 26 1/2. We had just finished Peace Corps, went to grad/professional school after that.
Married in '87. (engaged 3 months after we met, married 3 months later.)
Still married. I think we married at the “right” age–not too young, not too old.

I was 19…turned 20 the next week while on our honeymoon!
DH was barely 23 (birthday was one month before the wedding).
We’re still together.
Have known him since I was 14. We met in the h.s. marching band and dated for a yr. until he left for college. We broke up and got back together three years later when I was a freshman in college.

Wedding was in '82. I had just finished soph. yr. of college. DH had graduated (we weren’t at the same college) the yr. before. I transferred colleges after the wedding and grad. in '85.
S1 was born in early '87 when I was 24. S2 was born in late '89 when I was 27.
I’ll be 49 when S2 graduates from college…yah!

21, right after college in the '80s. Still going strong.

Both my husband and I were 21 in 1985. Still married, still happy although it hasn’t always been perfect, recent empty nesters.

It is funny because my daughter’s long-term high school, now college boyfriend’s mom has told me many times that my husband and I married really young (she was 28) and seems worried that our kids will want to marry right out of college also. She is worried but I laugh because they are in a long distance relationship and I fully expect a break-up by the start of sophomore year, if not sooner.

As to our “selectivity”, remember, we were the tail end of the baby boomers. I was born in 1961, towards the end of the post war baby boom.

I too found out later that my parents were worried that I would not finish college and get married, as I fell so hard and fast for my husband. But we survived the long distance relationship, and I got my degree. I dropped my second major to do so, but at least I had a college degree.

As for waiting for ten years to have kids, shortly after my husband and I got married, we had the Oil Bust of the early 80s, and it took us ten years to finally save enough money to put a down payment on a house, something we were determined to do before we had kids.

We always regretted not being able to enjoy our pre parent stage because of our poverty, but are hoping, even though we are now close to or in our fifties, to at least do some traveling before we head to the nursing home. Thankfully, son took the free ride to college, so we finally don’t have to worry about tuition for a few years.

As I mentioned in earlier post, H and I were both 22 when we got married. But part of that decision was that my mother (a good ol’ Southern belle) would have had a cow if we had tried to just “live together.” My brother got married for the same reason. Times have changed and now, living together is expected before marriage. But in the South, back in the day, it just wasn’t done!

I did go to college (I have two bachelors degrees now), but my husband dropped out. It was in the mid-80’s and the computer software industry was really taking off. He took a full-time job as a programmer and never looked back. Now he wishes he had finished college, although it has honestly not hurt him one iota in all these years.

I was 27 and H was 36. We had both finished college and I was just out of graduate school. First marriage for both - 1989 - still married.

I was one of the last to get married from my HS crowd, DH was among the first. He was a year out of college, I had transferred and had a year left. He went to grad school after we’d been married three years.

S1 arrived after seven years, S2 15 months later. Didn’t buy a house til we were 37 and had paid off the student loans!!!

I turned 31 a few weeks before our marriage. Had my Ph.D. Done with school. Was (and still am) practicing in my profession. DH was 27. He had the choice of getting sent overseas with the military, then to be put on the NASA tract, or getting out, getting married and relocating to where I was (we were about 2 hrs apart). Three guesses which he picked. He went back to school and finished his masters (redirected from an engineering masters to an IT/Business masters) at night while working fulltime. We had our oldest son during that time, and I worked fulltime as well.
