How Old Were You When You Got Married?

Married for the first time at 22 and 21, the summer after we graduated from college in the Big Hair Era (80’s). And yes, it has lasted, through sickness and in health. We are waiting for the “richer” part to arrive!

Please note the date of the original threads. We have a porn pusher bumping this stuff
(joy 202)

So funny this thread got bumped. We just got back from Disney, celebrating our 30th anniversary. The concierge was cute and put mouse ears on top of the zero, so everybody was reading 38 years. I was only 20, one week from turning 21, when I got married, and H was irritated that he had to explain all week that he would have been in jail if he had married me 38 years ago, not 30!

Awwwww shoot!..I usually pay better attention to the dates! Oh well.

First post was 10-20-2010; do thread exhumers do that on purpose? It’s easy to miss the year and think it’s a recent post from October 20… What was the question? Everyone still married can add 2 years to their sentence, but decade/year of marriage should remain the same. 1981, 28, 31 years.

The spammer’s posts are gone, but others posted so the thread lives on!

How old were you when you first got married? 22
In what Decade was your first marriage? 70s (1978)
Did it last? yes!

I was 36 and we are still married in our 60s.

I was 19, H was 26 -

It was an ‘arranged’ marriage. My darling step-dad picked him out and kept throwing him at me until I said “yes”. He knew a keeper when he saw one.

Happily married for 30 years, love of my life.

I was 21, Mrs Wolverine was 22. Married in 1986. Lord knows why…but she still tolerates me 26 years later. :)

23 years old

in 1979

still going strong

I was 21, husband was 22. Married in 1975. Still married at 37 years. Best friends. I would NEVER recommend any of my children get married that young, but one of ours did and he’s still happily married after 12 years, so what do I know right?

We were both 24 in 1979. Still married 33 years later. I"d think that was too young if either of my kids wanted to marry at that age. Actually, S1 is 25, unmarried, in a relationship with no plans to marry soon.

How many met and married someone at work? That’s what DH and I did.

Age when married: 29 (DH was 27 almost 28). 1st for me 2nd for DH (a stupid 20 year old mistake that lasted less than 6 months)
Year married: 1990
Still married: very happily, thank you.

Both DH and I concentrated on our careers after college. I travelled and worked internationally, he worked his way up in his engineering field. We met when we were 26 and 24, at an office party. Had to keep things hush hush till he decided to propose on XMas 1988. Few knew before we announced our engagement March 1989. Found out there were at least 4 other couples at work trying to fly under the radar too. Ours was the first wedding, the other 4 occurred within 18 months of ours.

Right after the wedding, I made the decision to make a lateral job change in order to end the travelling and we bought our 1st home right away. DH started travelling for his job, so we waited a bit on procreating (doesn’t mean we didn’t practice alot!).

DD1 arrived 40 months after the wedding. DD2 arrived 40 months after that.

Currently looking forward to empty nesting. Will have to wait one more year.

31 (H was 30)

1989

Still together but it was H’s 2nd (another stupid 21 yr old mistake) and I told him if he ever divorced me that would make him a two time loser, so I’m pretty confident he is sticking with me no matter what. ;)

This thread is interesting. I’m surprised by how many of you married so young! Living together right now is more than enough for me lol.

I was 23, wife was 26. 1986. Still married and still best friends.

How old were you when you first got married?
31

In what decade was your first marriage?
1990s (1991, to be exact)

Did it last?
No (my husband died between our 5th and 6th anniversary)

24, husband 26
1984
Yes, he tolerates me well, lol

I was 21, husband was 24. Married over 30 years.

Our 25 year old daughter got married this summer. After she called to announce her engagement, our conversation went like this:

husband: They are too young to get married.
me: We were younger than they are when we got married.
husband: Yes, but we were so much more mature.
me: yeah, right…
